ping must follow tracert

Post by colapig » Tue Jan 05, 2016 6:14 am

I setup a simple VPN server for roaming user to connect to my home network to use a windows 7 PC. the roaming user can't ping the PC after connected to the VPN server. But after ran tracert. the roaming user can ping and remote control the PC, but after a which, It can't ping and remote control it again. Is this the routing table problem?

Thanks,

Does IP segment overlap between client side and server side?

I found that metric of the LAN card can affect the ping result. In XP, I would uncheck the box to prohibit the vpn connection use remote gateway, then I can browse the internet go through my local gateway. But after used Windows 7, this check box removed in the TCP/IP setting.

I think there is "interface metric" option in Windows 7 or later.
