Azue IPSEC

Post by thenon » Sun Jul 24, 2016 7:33 pm

Hi.

Does anybody have experience using SoftEther to set up a site to site IPSEC connection, from softether, to an Azure virtual network gateway?

Note - I am NOT talking about the Azure service from SoftEther itself. I'm referring to an actual Azure account.

On the face of it, it should work, but in Azure I cannot see anywhere to set up the ISAKMP Phase 1 ID details. Are these required?

Thanks.

No client yet - because I don't know how to setup the Azure part...

Thanks.

as far as I can see, azure offers vpn through IPSec, i.e. they use IPSec in tunnel mode
Softether offers L2TP over IPSec, i.e. they use IPSec for transport and L2TP for tunneling.

So from what I understood so far, you can't use Softether for that
I'm actually in a similar problem right now, so please correct my info if I'm wrong, or you know a way how to use pure IPSec inside softether

Cheers

Can Azure virtual network gateway act as IPSec initiator?

I have no experience with microsoft Azure but I can imagine that the answer is yes, since they offer a site-to-site vpn connection
