Which ports need to be forwarded?

Post by hong » Mon Jan 02, 2017 11:59 am

I set up SE VPN Server on a Windows 7 machine behind a router. I tested it on the LAN with two mobile devices - an Android and a Windows Phone. It works fine.
I have forwarded the following ports to the machine hosting SE:
1723
992
1194
555

I am testing with the same two mobile devices a the only difference of VPN address - changed from a local private IP (192.168.1.151) to a pubic IP 72.74.x.x. Unfortunately, it is not working. I figure it must be port forwarding issue. Could anyone offer a tip on what ports need to be forwarded to SE?

If you are using OpenVPN then port 1194 (or whatever you set in SE)

For L2TP protocol, ports: 500,4500, 1701

SE has been set to use the following ports:
443
992
1194
555

I am trying to access the SE VPN server with Android devices. My understanding is that I have to use the Android built-in VPN client.

If you are using the native android client (i.e. you didn't install any apps), then your only option is L2TP protocol.
For this protocol to function correctly, you need to allow the following ports through your firewall on the SE server:
500,4500,1701

These UDP ports are automatically opened by VPN server when L2TP is enabled.
If you use NAT router, you have to set up port forwarding them.
