starting with NO knowledge

Post by bugrit » Mon Apr 03, 2017 12:21 pm

Hello,
I last used Softether over a decade ago, I have just found it again. My question is:

Does anyone have any STEP-BY-STEP instructions on how to get it going?

Thankyou in advance,

bugrit.

I just installed SoftEther on Windows XP SP3 where my steps were:

0. DO NOT INSTALL just the softether vpn client!
The names are super confusing, so, be careful.
1. Download the combination "SoftEther VPN Client + VPN Gate Client Plugin"
http://www.vpngate.net/en/download.aspx
http://download.vpngate.jp/common/cd.as ... 138071.zip
vpngate-client-2016.06.27-build-9613.135836.zip
2. Unzip the package which will have a db, a couple DLLs & the installer.
3. Run the installer
4. Once installed you can delete the extracted zip folder.
5. Start the softether vpn client manager
"C:\Program Files\SoftEther VPN Client\vpncmgr.exe"
6. If you don't see three things, you installed the wrong softether package:
a. Add VPN connection
b. VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers <=== this is what you need!
c. VPN Client Adapter - SoftEtherVirtualNetworkAdapter
7. Just doubleclick on (b) above which should give you a list of possible VPN connections.
8. Doubleclick on any of the possible VPN connection lines to connect by VPN.
9. Wait for confirmation in your Windows task bar
10. Once you're connected on VPN, doublecheck your IP address at http://whatismyipaddress.com

Hope this helps.
