MAC Address masking issue..

Post by mkaand » Sun May 21, 2017 2:21 pm

Hello,

I use SoftEther VPN on my WRT1900AC with Kong's firmware. SoftEther VPN is very good open source VPN solution. I do not use SecureNAT and built-in DHCP because it makes some issue on my local network. That's why I use DDWRT DHCP.

Problem 1.

I have small garden with hutch and free public wifi. I added another DDWRT router there. But for WAN settings I cannot make L2TP connection with main router. For this reason I added another router (EDIMAX NANO) it can make L2TP connection without secret key. But I want to make connection just one router is better. Is that possible?

Problem 2.

As I said I use DDWRT DHCP. VPN clients can able to get local IP from DHCP Server 192.168.20.X. Problem is MAC Address masking. SoftEther VPN Server always masking MAC Addresses. I cannot assign static ip address for real mac address. I added static ip for SoftEther's first dummy MAC Address. And my EDIMAX NANO router can get easily 192.168.20.106 (static lease). But sometimes internet has problems and EDIMAX trying to reconnect and it lose this ip address and it gets wrong IP. For this reasonmy Garden's IP Camera gets wrong IP Address. How to prevent this?

Problem 3.

As I said I use free public wifi for connection SoftEther VPN. In Server side 500-4500-1701 UDP ports open. Client side I do not think any port is open (public wifi) Public wifi owners can block my traffic? If they do how can I bypass it?

Thank you very much for your answers...

PPP based VPN protocols such as L2TP don't provide MAC address information to the server.
So, please try L2 protocol like OpenVPN (tap).

Since I've opened this post, I solved the problem via Open VPN. Currently my client gets same IP. Actually I use different ip range for OVPN lets say 2-20 and I have only one OVPN client others are SoftEther clients. So OVPN client gets always x.x.x.2 IP. Thanks anyway.
