After I installed SoftEther VPN and established a connection through SoftEther VPN Gate Public Relay Servers, My IP Address showed me in Japan rather than BC, Canada. I ran a DNS Leak Test https://dnsleaktest.com/, Standard test immediatly exposed my IP address, the Extended test immediately exposed my IP address 6 out of 6 times. This is neither a private, nor secure situation and if there is no setting fix for this then I will have to look into a different VPN as a solution.

I have exactly the same problem with DNS leak,after connecting the ip address changes, and the DNS remains unchanged

Disable WebRTC in your browser, you can install an extension to do this:

Does that extension itself open up the browser to some vulnerability?

No, it doesn't and it wouldn't be of much use if it did. ;)

It really can cause big problems with security issues...

If you are using windows. I found it to be a windows issue not SE. SE doesn't seem to override the DNS like other VPN apps do.
I connect to multi NordVPN servers via the built in Windows VPN client using IKEv2 and it also reveals my local DNS. However when I use the NordVPN software it overrides it and shows the remote NORD DNS servers. The OpenVPN client overrides them as well. There are many forums discussing this issue. Mainly in regard to employees connecting to corporate VPNs and not having access to remote office resources due to the client not connecting to the corporate DNS serves like should. Older Windows versions did not have this issue. With Windows 10 it started happening due to some update. I even noticed some win 7 PCs started having this issue.

FIX: On the machine with the issue search "Gpedit". In the Group Policy window please navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Network -> DNS Client and open "Turn off Multicast Name Resolution" Highlight->Edit->Enabled -> apply->OK Do the same for " turn off multi-homed named resolution" REBOOT PC

If you are using Active directory Domains. I believe this can be done via group policies on the AD server.

Have you tested on different tools? Because most of the time, it is tool error.
