Connection issue on iOS

Post by igor.nazarov.1991 » Sun Mar 24, 2024 1:13 pm

Hello.

I'm trying to connect to different servers from `vpngate.net` list on iOS platform (iOS 17.3.1). I use manual configuration in iPhone native settings app. An interesting fact is that L2TP protocol connection works fine, however IPsec protocol doesn't work: iOS says that the VPN server did not respond.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Hey! That's quite a pickle with the iOS VPN setup. If L2TP is working fine but IPsec isn't, here are a few things you might want to check:

Configuration Details: Double-check all your IPsec settings. One wrong parameter can be the difference between connecting and not. Things like server address, pre-shared key, and any user credentials need to be exact.

Firewall or Network Issues: Sometimes the network you're on might block certain protocols. If you're on a corporate or school network, they might have restrictions in place. Try a different network and see if you have the same problem.

Server Support: Make sure that the server you’re trying to connect to actually supports IPsec. Servers on vpngate.net are provided by volunteers and might not all have the same configurations or protocols available.

Protocol Support:
Ensure that the IPsec protocol is not disabled on your iOS device. This can happen for various reasons, including restrictions set by some mobile carriers or your organization’s IT policy.

Server Overload: Sometimes servers on VPN Gate can be overloaded. Since these servers are volunteered, they might not be as reliable or have the capacity of commercial VPN servers.

iOS VPN Client Compatibility: There might be compatibility issues with the native iOS VPN client and the particular IPsec setup of the VPN Gate server. It’s rare, but it can happen.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, you might consider using a third-party VPN client from the App Store that supports IPsec and see if that makes a difference. Some of them have better logging and might give you a more detailed error message that can help in troubleshooting.
