Connection error (newbie)

Post by marcocir » Tue Apr 08, 2025 6:30 pm

Hi All.
This is my first installation of SoftEther VPN, I'm a total newbie with it, and I'm blocked by the simplest communication error.
My scenario is a basic PC-to-LAN Remote Access VPN.

I have installed and configured SoftEther VPN Server on a WIndows 11 PC, internal to the LAN of my customer but with a port forwarding rule (on the router) that connects port 1194 on a public address of that LAN to the 1194 port of the connected ethernet device of the PC, with local (fixed, no DHCP) IP 192.168.1.169.

So, sorry but I need help for the most stupid problem: when I try to connect to public IP of my customer LAN, using Windows SoftEther VPN client software, I always get a connection failed error (see attached image)

Something is blocking communication with server but I can't find what I can check to finally fix it.
I love simplicity and interface of SoftEther VPN, so hope you can help.
Thanks!
Marco

Port (UDP) 1194 is typically for OpenVPN. Forward TCP 443, also check the server's firewall.

Thank you Solo.
It was enough to ask the Internet provider for that port forward: now first user of my customer is using the VPN from his home!
Have a good day.
Marco
