Does cascade connection work with VLANs?

Post by yumemi5k » Thu May 21, 2015 3:52 pm

I currently have VLANs set up on both of my switches, which are connected by a fiber trunk link. However, one switch is to be moved to another building, making a physical fiber link unfeasible.
My idea would be to connect the to be severed fiber trunk link to an ethernet port of a VPN server, and bridge the port to a local bridge. The two local bridges(one on each side) are then connected with a cascade connection. I know this would work with networks without VLANs, however, I'm not sure if this would with work with VLANs.
So my question would be: will this work?
If not, is this at all possible, and what should I do instead?
thanks!

It depends on VLAN type.
SoftEther supports Ethernet (IEEE802.3) Frames (Up to 1,600bytes for IEEE802.1Q VLAN Tags).
