It seems that Softether was the cause of a BSOD hunting me for a long time. I always suspected a VPN application, now I know :( See: URL is scforum. dumb spam filter .info / index.php / topic,8903.msg23656.html#msg23656
Anyways, I removed the software with IObit Uninstaller and manually went to my registry and searched for more traces, which I found but could not remove!
Also, removing the device "VPN Client Adapter - VPN123" fails. No error, but removing it will not work.
Seems to be in par with the fact that I cannot remove the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\ROOT\NET\0000\Properties
It is TOTALLY blocked. I tried all regular stuff (taking permission, resetting permissions, removing inheritance, ...) but NOTHING. I also tried to remove the key with RegASSASSIN (https://www.malwarebytes.org/regassassin/).
So... Pretty please, developers... Is there an uninstall tool or *any* advise to remove this stubborn registry keys...?

Please help :)
... Peace!

Re: Bug: registry keys locked: unable to remove VPN123 devic
I know, not helpfull^^
But the "locked" registry-key looks like normal windows behavior. For example, the Properties of my VirtualBox Adapter are locked too. But deinstalling the VPN-Adapter from the GUI-Tool removes the registry entry complety....so yes. You have a problem ;)
And I know that sounds like "Have You Tried Turning It Off And On Again?"
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn2FB1P_Mn8) but have you tried to re-install the driver? I mean the function in the client tool.

Actually, quite helpful :) Thank you for your thoughts.
I did not test Safe mode... I will do that next time my PC reboots and test again.
Turning device off/on did not work - tried that. Same for re-installing SoftEther. All that happens is that the Dial Up list stays empty :(
So yes, I have a problem :)

PLEASE developers... You must have *some* ideas...?

Have you tried to reinstall the driver?
I mean:
Install softether-client again. Open it. Reinstall:

If you device doesn't exist, you can try to install VPN123 again and then reboot, open client, select deinstall.

Re: Bug: registry keys locked: unable to remove VPN123 devic
This is not a bug. Any VPN Client Adapter virtual device which are created by the user after the installtion should be removed by the user manually.
The user can easily remove a VPN Client Adapter device from Device Manager of Windows, or the VPN Client Manager GUI.
