ddns/vpnazure address changed

Post by pkpowell » Fri Jun 06, 2014 7:54 am

Hi there
This morning the ddns and vpnazure addresses of our vpnserver were reset to a generic address.
I tried entering the name we had before but was told it was already in use, so I chose a new name and also entered it at our two other locations and all was fine.
Any idea why this might happen? Is there a way to reclaim "lost" ddsn names?

Anyway, thanks for a fantastic piece of software!
Cheers
Phil

The DDNS hostname resets when the local hostname of the computer changes.

You can restore the previous DDNS hostname by restoring the DDNS key from the automatically backuped vpn_server.config files.

These backup history have been saved on the sub directory of VPN Server. Please check them.

Thanks for your reply.
As far as I can tell there has been no change in the computers hostname. The computer did reboot again twice all on it's own though! Something weird going on there.

So about the keys. Do I just copy the keys or the whole backup file?

Thanks again

You can copy the DDNS key value from one of the previous vpn_server.config into the current vpn_server.config.

Open the vpn_server.config by a text editor to find the location of the DDNS key easily.

Please mind that vpn_server.config must be edited after you shutdown the VPN Server background service.

OK thanks, I think I found it.

One more question. I've been trying to enable logging to a syslog-server and so far not had any luck.
I've entered the syslog server name and port and also selected "Send Server Logs by Syslog" but am not seeing any data. Did I miss something?

To clarify the problem, capture the outgoing traffic of the VPN Server computer to check whether there is transmitting syslog UDP packet or not.

Still no luck with the syslog, neither the office vpn server not the one I have at home seem to send any data. Other machines, routers etc work fine. Maybe it's a mac thing - all our computers are macs.

Another thing. I installed the recent updates (from source) which worked fine. It seems as if the connection is slightly less stable for me than before. There are maybe 2-3 disconnects per day. There were hardly any before the updates.

Is there anything I could check to make things stable again?

Thanks
Phil

Actually it's disconnecting every couple of minutes.
While it's connected there's a lot of:

2014-06-12 00:14:53.713 [HUB "vpn-mini"] Session "SID-LINK-14": A large volume of broadcast packets has been detected. There are cases where packets are discarded based on the policy. The source MAC address is 00-26-42-CE-66-C0, the source IP address is 192.168.1.1, the destination IP address is 0.0.0.0. The number of broadcast packets is equal to or larger than 176 items per 1 second (note this information is the result of mechanical analysis of part of the packets and could be incorrect).

in the logs.

Would you like me to send you some logs?

I need no logs from you.

I suppose that there are broadcast storm from the "192.168.1.1" host.

You should capture the traffic inner the Virtual Hub to find the cause.

Just a quick update on my stability problem.
I think the instability started when I switched to using certificates for authentication.
I switched back to password and it's been working much more smoothly.
