How to stop LAN connections through VPN?

Post by DeniZz » Sun Aug 17, 2014 2:30 pm

I've home VPN server and two notebooks. When I had Windows 7 installed on my computers, everything worked just like I needed. Now, after installing Windows 8.1, I have trouble connecting directly to each pc when in home network. Lan connections are going through vpn adapters. My lan is 192.168.1.x, vpn is 172.16.1.x. Default gateway for lan is 192.168.1.253, for vpn is 172.16.1.253. Lan metric is 1, vpn metric is 100. Connections to 192.168.1.x is all going through 172.16.1.253, but I need them to go through 192.168.1.253.
It's only work when I not using default gateway for vpn connections, but then I've unidentified network for vpn connections, it's public and I can't access my vpn computers when I'm not at home. I know that I can change unidentified network to be private, but why it just can't work like it was on Windows 7? In Windows 7 with the same configuration I've had my vpn network set as Working network, and had access to all my computers by vpn, when not at home, and by lan when I was at home.

What is wrong with disabling VPN when you are connected to you're home network ?

Nothing is wrong, but when I'm out from home with two laptops, I need to use vpn and lan at the same time. But after upgrading to Windows 8.1, I can only use vpn for sharing, it forces to. Sharing between laptops at the same lan is going through vpn server.
Now I've set vpn metric to 5000, disabled NetBIOS in vpn connections, set vpn adapters' speed to lower than wifi (lan) connections. That seems to help, but need some time to test.
And it wasn't a trouble, when I've used Windows 7. Something is broken in 8.1 or softether vpn client software is having issues at 8.1.

Setting metric to automatic also should work.

No, setting metric to automatic doesn't help.
By now, setting speed to 95mbps, metric to 5000, disabling NetBIOS, ipv6, QoS, link-layer topologies helped me. I can set vpn connection to be private, not unidentified, and not conflicting with my lan connections.
