Azure.net and local resource not working on QNAP TS-269 Pro

Post by yhfung » Sat Apr 06, 2013 9:23 am

From [1], I was able to install SoftEther VPN Server on a QNAP TS-269 Pro NAS without any difficulties anymore. However, I found that the following two items, which were working on MS Windows-based SoftEther VPN Server running on an Itel-based X86 desktop computer, but not working on my NAS:

1. the DNS domain azure.net
2. Local IP resource (the same IP address of SoftEther VPN Server is running). It means that the local server IP address is not pingable.

The server version that I am using on my NAS is
softether-vpnserver-v1.00-9051-rc2-2013.04.05-linux-x86-32bit.tar.gz

Are these known issues or only me have the problems?

Please try to use tap mode local bridge.
Local bridge with network device cannot transfer traffic from the VPN server host to the virtual hub.

Hello cedar,

Many thanks for letting know the answer [1] for the second question. I have to read more information about how to create an TAP device.

How about the first question? Azure.net was not working on my QNAP NAS.

You did try azure.net?

VPN Azure service uses ***.vpnazure.net.
Please confirm your domain name correct.

Yes I did using hostname.vpnazure.net for my QNAP NAS case but it still failed to pass through firewall and NAT of my router.

My friend installed a SoftEther VPN Server on a Raspberry Pi without problem when using Azure.net。

I guess the Linux on QNAP NAS is different from the one used on Raspberry Pi.

Did your VPN server enable VPN azure function and DDNS function?

If the VPN server has registered the hostname to DDNS service, It should succeed at least in name resolution.
Can you see the IP address when you ping to the ***.vpnazure.net ?
