I could not figure this one out. Do I need to open some kind of ports for this? I mean what port number do I put on the client side?

Thanks in advance for your help folks.

ICMP protocol, not port. Allow this in your firewall.
But keep in mind - you can't make forwarding ICMP on router.
Instead use VPN over DNS.

How can we use the tunnel over DNS? Its not using DNS, i have allowed the DNS ports from my firewall at both ends using Softether vpn server in bridge mode

Click on Encryption and Networks then You will see VPN over ICMP settings and enable the DNS over there.

It is not also clear to me will the system use ICMP by default? I have activated ICMP and DNS option but our client have only the option to connect via port not protocol.

Could you be more specific?

Thanks

I was able to answer someone's question regarding your problem here. http://www.vpnusers.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2879
just check the last few post.

Softether client got it's TCP protocol on top of it's priority as it's the stable one, UDP on Nat-t comes next, then ICMP and then DNS. of all these protocol only the vpn over DNS did not work for me as it fails to retrieve the right ip and gateway.
