sc start/stop failed on windows 7

Post by ken3 » Sun Mar 30, 2014 2:55 am

I have installed SoftEther VPN Client onto the PC running Windows7 Pro.
Installation was fine, and I have no problem for normal use.
But when I start or stop SEVPNCLIENT service by using sc command like this,

c:\sc start SEVPNCLIENT

I have got an error below;

[SC] StartService: OpenService FAILED 5:

***(Japanese message saying Access Denied)

Any suggestions?

window 7 you say? Then all you need to do is run the command with administrator privilege. If you are running it in command prompt the run cmd as admin first.

Hi, thanks for your replay.
I have run cmd.exe as an administrator and typed
c:\sc start SEVPNCLIENT
the result was same :-(

well [SC] StartService: OpenService FAILED 5: does mean that you don't have sufficient privilege to start the service.

tried running the command in win7 guest account and it give me the same error. but works fine in admin account. Just try starting the server in services.msc

Hi,

I could not resolve the problem, so I re-installed windows7 from scratch and
installed Software VPN. Now, sc command worked fine.

Thanks for your suggestions.
