VPN Client Mac

Post by Resentic » Mon Jan 26, 2015 8:41 am

I am trying to use Softether VPN Client as a way to connect to my VPN provider. It works fine on Windows as the program has GUI. However, I am trying to get it to work on Mac OS X; I have installed it and tried to create a connection but it gives me connection errors:

vpncmd command - SoftEther VPN Command Line Management Utility
SoftEther VPN Command Line Management Utility (vpncmd command)
Version 4.12 Build 9514 (English)
Compiled 2014/11/17 22:16:06 by yagi at pc25
Copyright (c) SoftEther VPN Project. All Rights Reserved.

By using vpncmd program, the following can be achieved.

1. Management of VPN Server or VPN Bridge
2. Management of VPN Client
3. Use of VPN Tools (certificate creation and Network Traffic Speed Test Tool)

Select 1, 2 or 3: 2

Specify the host name or IP address of the computer that the destination VPN Client is operating on.
If nothing is input and Enter is pressed, connection will be made to localhost (this computer).
Hostname of IP Address of Destination: xxx.xxx.xx.xx

Error occurred. (Error code: 1)
Connection to the server failed. Check network connection and make sure that address and port number of destination server are correct.

Make sure Softether VPN client is running. vpncmd is only for manage it, not operate.

EDIT: I now understand what I am meant to be doing.

New error:

VPN Client>NicCreate
NicCreate command - Create New Virtual Network Adapter
Virtual Network Adapter Name: VPN

Error occurred. (Error code: 31)
Installation of the Virtual Network Adapter device driver failed.

If your VPN client is running and you want to connect vpncmd locally make sure you enter (better not enter anything) localhost or 127.0.0.1 at destination host.

Why can't I create a network adapter though?

EDIT:
Figured it out, just download a universal TUN/TAP driver for OS X and it should work fine :)

Try to look at vpnclient logs. Maybe there you can find some more details.
