If you want to download something on the Internet(through VPN), what affects the speed?
如果通过VPN来下载东西的话，影响下载速度的是什么呢？是否取决于宽带的带宽？

if torrent,it depends on the number of seed/peer
if direct download,it depends on the geolocation and bandwidth of the server
*u cant control the factor above*
*but u can control to certain extend for the following factor*
1)enable compression on the server and client configuration-make sure server and client have enough CPU processing power to compress the data(most current CPU have more than enough power to do that,even the ancient Pentium series processor or less powerfull Atom processor can handle the compression.NOT ALL data is compressible,if u are downloading compressed file such as JPEG or MPEG4 file,the compression will low which result lower effective download rate.
2)disable encryption-eliminate extra calculation which may increase the overhead of the data transferred.
3)number of parallel download-some server may limit the download rate per connection,so using download manager which offer parallel download will significantly increase the download rate(i know most provide up to 20 parallel download connection)
