Simple VPN question.

Hello Everyone -

I am new to VPN's and specifically SoftEther VPN and have a simple question possibly one of you experts can answer.

I have a home computer with a static IP. What i need is to be able to connect to the home computer via a VPN and route all traffic through that static IP.

I only want this connection to be between two computers and won't be adding more to it.

Any tips?

I do see it's possible via https://www.softether.org/4-docs/2-howt ... k_Anywhere but i don't see any setup instructions.

Thank you for replying.

Hi guys -

I figured it was quiet straight forward... I was able to Setup the VPN server on one end and VPN client on the other.

Only problem. VPN client is not able to connect to the server... eventhough it shows the server is online (on Server end).

I get the Error code 1: "Connection to the server failed. Check network connection and make sure that address and port number of destination server are correct."

I did made sure the Dynamic host name is connect and the port is correct too.

Any tips on what i might be doing wrong?

Two updates.

1. I was able to connect to the VPN from inside the local network... Huge success... but still not what i was looking for.

2. I was able to connect to the VPN from the outside network by forwarding the port 992 (992 is the port i am connecting to) using the router to the VPN server's local ip and i was able to connect.

Only problem. My whole idea of the VPN is to acquire the external ip address of the VPN server... Hoping to figure it out before someone replies :) :( or not.

If you want to get external IP, make sure that your ISP allows you to get more than one IP address.

The machine i am connecting to only has one static IP assigned to it and the ISP doesn't allow having multiple IP's.

To my understanding If all computers under one network can have ONE external IP... Can't the computer connected via VPN be as one of the computers on local network and have the same external IP.

Like proxies for instance... Get us the External IP... Doesn't VPN does the same thing.

Please try to use SecureNAT.
Before using SecureNAT, please disable localbridge.
