SNMP monitoring over vpn tunnel

Hi All,
I faced today a strange problem: when I tried to set a SNMP traffic monitor for a switch over a Softhether Bridged connection (Linux based bridge connected to Windows based Sofether VPN server -Layer2 Bridge) I found out that the snmp traffic is very slow and PRTG Monitor is set the sensor to Unknown status (no data). Increasing SNMP delay to 100 ms had no help .. All other traffic, include IP telephony traffic is pretty fast .. but SNMP is very slow, snmpwalk output from the switch takes a LOT of time..
So the question is there any way to speedup SNMP traffic?
Thanks.
