Why in the WORLD does it say connected when ip NOT assigned

Hi, I absolutely love Softether and the Softether software but one thing that drives me crazy and causes me a lot of problems. First let me explain I have many dedicated servers with several dedicated ips on them. And I rent dedicated ips to customers for vpn usage, everything works great

But when one of my servers is having issues for example and a customer tries to connect like normal to his dedicated ip vpn using Softether Client Manager Software, after a while it will say Connected without assigning the ip (because the server is having an issue), so the user's real ip address is still exposed but alot of time they don't realize it yet unless he's a veteran customer because all he see's is Softether says "Connected"

and then when they do realize they've been exposing their ips because it didnt connect properly they get angry at me and it causes me alot of stress. This could all be avoided so easily if instead of softether software telling the user he's connected successfully that instead it gives them a simple error message.

Because right now its just confusing the customer telling them its connected when in reality he's not because his real ip is exposed and it didn't change to the vpns ip,

Am I missing something is their a setting I can change on my server or something to make it so that if the user is not assigned a dedicated ip when trying to connect via Softether software they can get an error message or something... or make it so it doesnt say connected

ANY HELP WOULD BE SUPER APPRECIATED... this has been driving me crazy

Thanks!!

No ideas, but an (inaccurate) explanation.

Softether comes from Software-Ethernet. And if you take a look in the OSI Model (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model) you will see, that Ethernet is "Layer-2" but IPs exist only in Layer-3.
Or simple sad. The message, that you are connected, is correct (its a bit like a virtual cable between server and client).

Thanks for the information, so do you know of anyway to resolve this issue I'm having, perhaps is there any way to require encryption for the connection to be successful? Cause if the ip doesn't change than I guess the connection is not encrypted as well

If you don't want unencrypted communication, please delete default gateway after connection.

Hi so by simply deleting the default virtual hub it would prevent users from connecting without being assigned a dedicated ip??

Hello There!. Is all of your customers' traffic routed through SE's VPN connection ?

Hi, Yes we solely use Softether for all our VPN connections

If all of your traffic is routed through the SE VPN connection, then, in case there are no IP settings received from your SE server, your customers shouldn't be able to access the Internet, so make sure that you've set their SE clients to route all traffic through the SE VPN connection. Also, you set the priority of the SE virtual adapter to be the one with the highest priority among the adapters that are present on your customers' machines. Let's see what you get back!.

Good luck (:

Not 'default hub', please delete 'default gateway' of the client.

Default gateway is on routing table.
Check it.

Hi I open up server mangaer and do not see anywhere routing table? Where would that be or could you let me know the commands to remove the default gateway? That would be very helpful thank you!
