Hi there, sorry for the stupid question but is softether suitable for Windows server 2016 .
I need to quickly set up a VPN on our server for remote access to a our servers file server.

Ok forget my last question. I have installed the server and client on 2 windows 10 machines. I have set up the users and managed to establish a connection but i dont understand where i can access the files on the server machine?
I would really appreciate some advice

Did you create a local bridge?
You need to create a local Bridge in order for clients to have access to the resources on the SE VPN servers local network.
