VPN Endless Problems

Post by morneb » Fri Oct 04, 2019 8:22 pm

Hi all,

Hopefully someone can assist me... Its been weeks and months now.....

We have our head office loaded with Softether VPN Server, now I have 3 other branches I want to link to this server.

I am battling endlessy with error codes. Especially error code 1

I can ping my ddns name and public IP but cant access them. When they are connected through LAN I can access the server, anything outside of LAN I can't.

I have watched so many youtube videos and gooogled everything I could.

I am out of ideas. I am running Server 2016 as my VPN server and Windows 10 Pro as my clients.

Can someone please assist me. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thamks to all in advance.

Connect server and client directly with 1 lan cable to check if you have good configs

Do not go over internet

Hi Sky59,

Thanks, but I cant use LAN cables.

Our head office and branches are miles apart from each other....

Hence we are using a VPN.

I sense a lot of frustration here....

What Sky59 means is: first set-up a (simple) vpnserver in your lab and try to connect that locally. Preferably on (lan) Ip-address, not name.
If that works, you can always go to your branchoffice and start doing it there.
(A bit like learning to crawl before you walk....)

There are now too many parameters/variables that can go wrong. VPNsettings, clientsettings, certificates, firewall(s), routing/nat, portforwarding.....
Start very simple, and work your way up.
Once you understand how SE works, it proves not really that hard. The hard stuff is all done by Daiyuu Nobori.

And please don't waste time with Youtube as a reference to a serious install. It's hopeless.

As for your concept: 3 offices linked together with softether. Great idea. That should certainly be possible.
Many went before you. So don't despair.
