Hi everyone,

I have setup a softether server in a VPS using Microsoft Azure. I can connect to it using softether client. I have also setup the server for L2TP and openvpn but when I try to connect to the server using any of these, the connection fails. Do I need to open some ports on the vps? The error message on windows (When I try to connect using L2TP) is "L2TP connection failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during the initial negotiations with the remote computer". On the android device, I get a error saying connection unsuccessful.
I have made sure that the shared key is same but still I am getting an error. Please help, I was not able to get clear answers anywhere.

Hey mate,

For L2TP to work, you should also forward 500, 1701 and 4500 in your modem.

Try this and let me know how you go.

Cheers

For OpenVPN, you should forward the port defined in you setting. Default is 1194.

The vpn server is on a VPS in the cloud so the appropriate settings must be made for that? As for forwarding 500, 1701 and 4500 goes, how do I do that? Please explain (I am a noob at this doing this for personal use)

All these setting should be done in your local router under port forwarding.
