Cannot use port 443 for establishing VPN access

Post by Don-Santo » Tue Oct 26, 2021 11:23 am

I cannot use Port 443 because our Router “FritzBox 6890” (german product) uses itself port 443 for VPN access.
In the router protocol when I enter port 443 in the “internet release” the router istself always changes the port in 61300 or so.
Later on when I start the Softether Client I type in port 61300 instead of the choosen 443. In this case I can establish a tunnel but I cannot reach the internal SERVER where the soft ether server software is already running. I alwas get that error message as follows: Remote Desktop cannot find the computer xxxxxx. The server may not belong to the specified network. Check the computer name and the domain they want to connect to.

Did you configure a bridge, VNAT or L3?
Where, if anywhere, can you ping?

The Fritzbox does not use 443 for VPN, it only uses this for external management purposes. You can change the port the box listens in the management UI. Since VPN on 443 will give you better compatiblity when the traffic passes through firewalls or proxys I would recommend to give 443 to softether. Management will work also with a random port.

Your answer: "Did you configure a bridge, VNAT or L3?"
Our configuration ist "Direct TCP/IP Connection (No Proxy) this worked already a year ago.
Standard Password Authentication.
For sure we didn't confiure a brigde, all is like the standard SoftEther Configuration.
I don't know VNAT or L3?

I can ping the server when I'm at the remotr network in our company.

Then no wonder that "I alwas get that error message as follows: Remote Desktop cannot find the computer xxxxxx."

To avoid the error you have to configure a bridge, VNAT or L3.

Many thanks to "solo". I will change the configuration as you suggested.
Will report at the end of next week how it works.

To change my settings to the suggested sttings bei SoftEhter user "solo": "To avoid the error you have to configure a bridge, VNAT or L3"....
Do I have to reinstall the whole SoftEther Server Software or can I change the settings in an existing SoftEhter Server installation?
Cannot find change settings?

What I still not understand is, that the standard configuration had worked already with the selction of the checkbox
"Remote Access VPN Server". Why do I need now a "Site to site VPN SErver of VPN Bridge"???
