Windows 11 Crashes when VPN starts Streaming

Post by shaywood » Wed Mar 09, 2022 4:30 pm

I setup Softether Server v4.38 on a Windows 11 pc that has a Realtek PCIe GbE Network Controller. I can connect fine from a client, but when I start transferring data, or stream through the client, the server pc crashes. I asked Microsoft to look at the minidump files and they said it's a problem/conflict with the pc's NIC. I tried using the network card drivers that come with Windows, as well as the most recent drivers from Realtek, but no luck. Any ideas?

A few ideas...
- if you use SecureNAT, turn it off and bridge it - or vice versa
- disable the Realtek NIC and use an Intel's PCIe card or USB NIC
- report it on https://github.com/SoftEtherVPN/SoftEtherVPN/issues

Thanks for the suggestions. Is there known problems with Realtek? I don't use SecureNAT, just local bridge. Definitely crashes the pc every time I connect and start transferring, or streaming. I'm going to try an Intel NIC.

Thanks. I'll let you know how it goes with the Intel NIC today.

it must be compatibility issue.

in our case softether server version 4.38 rtm is installed on linux.
As soon as we connect softether client(windows 11) with version v4.38, it crashes the server.
While linux client have no such issue.

stack trace shows that sigabort was called, no other information in stack.

Any update?

I was unable to resolve the problem and had to instead use a VPN on my NAS to access my home system. I tried several solutions including the use of a second intel NIC, second Realtec NIC.
