Open VPN connection locks out all other internet use?

Hi,
we have come across a strange issue on new installations of SoftEther that when we connect on to a site via the virtual network adapter to a remote site it is blocking out all other internet connectivity. The 4G modems we do connect to use a whitelist but i don't have the same issue when I connect.
Is there something with SoftEther Client config that could be preventing internet connectivity?
