Android connection via OpenVPN for Android

Post by AG197843 » Thu Jul 21, 2022 11:33 pm

Hi,
I'm currently running Android 5.1 + with a OpenVPN for Android client. Every time I try to connect it comes back with : auth-failure.
I'm authorizing with Certificates as this is deafult option in the .ovpn file when downloading and importing it into the OpenVPN client.
I did try to authorize with Username/Password with no luck at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you connecting to your own SE server or VPN Gate?
Logs from your phone?

Connecting to VPN Gate server.
Which logs do you need?

Thanks in advance.

OpenVPN for Android... logs from your phone.

Also, have you followed the guide precisely? https://www.vpngate.net/en/howto_openvpn.aspx#android

How many servers have you tried? https://www.vpngate.net/en/

Does the network you try to connect to have also DHCP server?
I have experience that OpenVPN is designed in a stupid way, so there must be the DHCP server to provide IP address otherwise it does not connect!!!

I am not using OpenVPN Connect.
I am using OpenVPN for Android.
When using the same program on my daily I am forced to enter the user and password for any VPN Gate profile and it works perfectly.

The current log at least with this particular VPN Gate server as follows:

I have tried at least five servers so far no luck.
However if I plug in the same VPN Gate server into my machine using OpenVPN I do get a user and password below the certificates line.
I fill those in and voila it is off and running.
Complete log will be posted shortly.

Usually AUTH_FAILED after PUSH_REQUEST means no DHCP and has nothing to do with authentication, like sky59 said, but here it appears to be a compatibility issue with your ancient version of Android. I note that VPN Gate recommended OpenVPN Connect does support Android 5.1- why not try it?

BTW, L2TP/IPsec VPN Client already bundled with Android is also an option for VPN Gate.

Yeah... It is ancient.
I tried the server 139.180.147.96 and it still giving me the same error.
My guess something is wrong with configuration of the server.
The rest of servers seem to be working just fine under OpenVPN Connect.
FYI it is not the same publisher as OpenVPN for Android compiled under F-Droid.

Thank you for your help. Appreciate timely response.

Thread closed. Problem solved.

Kudos to everybody.
