Couple issues for someone new

Post by BASH35 » Tue May 16, 2023 10:22 pm

Hello, I've been using Softether lately and it seems to be a wonderful VPN. I have been having a couple of weird issues I'm hoping you all can help me with. I am self-hosting my server on Debian with my own DNS so I don't need to use the softether.net DDNS.
  • 1. When connected to the VPN via my own DNS the download speed for the client is about 2mbps and upload 10mbps. When connecting via the softether.net DDNS it's about 30mbps download and upload 10mbps, which is the same for both. Download speed of 30mbps is the same as the upload speed provided by my ISP so it makes sense. Why are the upload speeds (download speed for clients) so different?
    2. When connecting to my VPN if I disconnect and immediately reconnect it gives me a 131 error. I assume this is more of a client error but maybe you guys could explain.
Any help would be appreciated

1. disable UDP Acceleration and NAT-T on both accounts and re-do the speed test
2. check https://www.vpnusers.com/viewtopic.php? ... 747#p95978

#2 worked perfectly thank you

The first issue is still persisting. I've connected via another client and it still has the same issue so I'm assuming it's a server issue. The upload speed is still 30mbps but the download speed still doesn't pass 2mbps.

Turning off UDP and NAT-T doesn't seem to do anything and I believe those are used to increase performance anyways.

The first issue is perplexing because there should be no difference. Curiously, what's the speed on direct IP and VPN Azure addresses? (while UDP Acceleration and NAT-T are off)
