Android port 443

I've come across some older posts that indicate the best way (maybe the only way) to use port 443 on an Android client is to use the OpenVPN app. Is this still the only way?
I need VPN traffic to look like regular HTTPS traffic because most guest wifi networks that I use only allow 80/443 and many of those networks try to sniff and block OpenVPN.
If I have to use the OpenVPN client on Android and use the OpenVPN Server Clone Function on SE, why not just use OpenVPN server? Does SE still outperform OpenVPN when it is set to clone OpenVPN? What other benefits other than the GUI?
