[REQUEST] Making our own VPN Azure relay

Post by acampeau » Thu Dec 04, 2014 5:28 am

Hi everyone,

This project is one of the best I've seen in years and can't help but tell everyone about it.

One of the main feature of SoftEtherVPN, I'm talking here about VPN Azure, is nicely designed, but could use a little improvement.

The Problem : I live in Canada, and the average connexion to Japan (VPN Azure server) average 350-450ms of ping and a download/upload of 3mbit in the best scenario.

The solution : I am asking you, if it pleases you, to release a public version of the VPN Azure binaries so that everyone can open up their own relay server and use it privately. With that kind of server, the ping and bandwith problem can be solved for about anyone. As far as I know, the need for a centralized version of VPN Azure isn't a specific requirement.

All we would have to do is specify the "Relay server" in the settings to connect to our own relay server.

And for that, I need the developper's collaboration.

Have a great day everyone and long live to that project!

Antoine

Why do you need a VPN Azure clone instead of a VPN server?

I already got my VPN Server set up, but I find the possibilities of VPN Azure very limited because of the obliged connection to the japan relay server.

If you have a global IP address, you don't need to use the VPN Azure.

I'm interested in the same thing.

It is for an internal lab environment, where I have even more internal firewalls with NAT.

I think you can install VPN server on the host that you will set up VPN Azure.
These are same.

It is for sure, that I do not understand all of the VPN server elements yet. The advantage I saw in a 'private VPN Azure' was the 'TeamViewer benefit'. I.e. My developer computer connects to the broker, my target VM connects to the broker, and I have an easy way to enter a unique target machine ID on my developer PC to create a tunnel. Our target VMs are all clones of each other; so, no way near unique hostnames/domain. And those are separated by

In that sense I'm really look for a company internal VPN broker where both ends can be behind a NAT/firewall device. I understand that it could become a bottleneck and single point of failure. Still, I will dig into this a little more then.

VPN Azure is not a broker, but a repeater.
VPN Azure is just a very large virtual HUB.

Dear thisjun,

our company is also interested in making our own VPN Azure.
The point is that we would like to make product which would be some kind of alternative to eWON products that have Talk2ME.

I already installed Linux and everything needed for reliable solution (product completely managed by web interface and it is also monitoring needed processes in case of some failure) and we would be selling only our computer with preinstalled solution. We would also show the costumer how they can do this themselves so we do not plan to charge the software part. This costumers are mainly machine builders and process automation and in that environment they need VPN azure because products are located all over the world and can not always ask IT guys to open them needed ports. We already have some machines in China and to explain those IT guys what to do in order to support them is hell of a job :)

With eWON costumers get some kind of guarantee that T2M service is available 365/7/24 and with VPN Azure I can not guarantee that unless we make our own VPN Azure.

And if VPN Azure does not need much bandwidth than I guess we are prepared to give this service also to you and in that case you would have two serves on two continents.

If you want to provide such service, you should prepare relay VPN server and distribute the BOX with VPN bridge.

Isn't VPN Azure Relay server?
I want to make some relay server for Softether VPN sollution, but I am lacking of knowledge and I thought if we could get some help by installing the same server like VPN Azure.

If you need relay server for VPN connection, please use HTTPS proxy or SOCKS5 proxy.

Thank you Cedar for help.

So with this HTTPS proxy or SOCKS5 proxy I will be able to reach Softether VPN servers that are behind firewall?
How do I configure VPN server to connect to this proxy server the same way it connects to VPN Azure?

Most of the time this VPN servers will be offline, but when costumer would need help they would simply connect it to internet and I need to be able to reach them.

If all this is working, is it possible just to give me som basic guide where and what to look for.
I will do the reading and testing :)

Thank you.
