Windows Server with SE VPN Server: cannot access on self hosted services

Post by pswsrl » Wed Jul 13, 2022 3:16 pm

I've a windows server hosted on cloud. It has 1 network card with pubblic ip address.
I've installed SE VPN Server with a classic simple configuration: virtualhub with virtual dhcp server enabled and virtual host network interface on 192.168.30.1. I can connect to server with my office pc and openvpn client, I can ping ip 192.168.30.1 but i can't access any services hosted on the same server (rdp, web service etc....).
Reading some topics on this forum, I think I need a virtual adapter for my server (maybe TAP?) and take a local bridge with SE virtual hub.
It seems a good and supported solution for Linux server, but how can I do on my Windows server? Anyone have a solution?

Yes, enable VirtualNAT and RDP to the host's IP, not to 192.168.30.1 - more info Client PC unable to reach shared directory on Server PC

Yes, this is the solution that normaly I already used when my server had a private ip address. But maybe you have not read well my post.
This is a server hosted on cloud. I've assigned pubblic ip address to network card. RDP to the host's IP, for example, cannot run.

OK, you've a point, but maybe you have not read well my linked post? The solution is right there, check the Microsoft Loopback Adapter option.

Yes @solo, the solution was under my nose. Installed Microsoft loopback adapter (in my case was Microsoft KM-TEST Loopback Adapter) and assigned a private ip (example 192.168.100.1). VirtulaNAT enabled and pushing 192.168.100.1/255.255.255.255/192.168.30.1 as static routing table to clients.
It works. Thanks for your hint.
